Not a pacifist exactly... more like a civilian trying to come to terms with the changed needs that war brings, and that his inventions can be put to uses he never had to think of before. I don't think you have to be a pacifist to be uncomfortable with the idea of suddenly needing to use your skills to hurt people, even if it's for a "good" cause.
